REMOVING EXCESSIVE SWEATING
BApart from causing muscular denervation and blocking muscle contractions, botulinum toxin also impedes the functions of sweat glands, as a result of which the sweat production is considerably reduced. This effects predetermine botulinum toxin to treat various neurological and eye diseases, and in esthetic dermatology, to smooth out wrinkles and to correct undesired palm, feet and armpit sweating. Botulinum toxin must not be administered to pregnant and weaning women, or in combination with aminoglycoside antibiotícs, or with myastenia gravis (autoimmune neuromuscular weakness). When applied to armpits and palms, the effects last for 6 – 10 months. After treatment sweating is reduced to tolerable level. Botulinum toxin blocks just the so called ekrin sweat glands, not affecting apokrin sweat glands, the number of which is small.
Treatment Procedure
First, iodine test is necessary: the
armpits, groins, palms or soles of the feet are spread with iodine and starch.
Where the mixture of iodine and starch gets into contact with sweat, it will
get black, and in these areas botulinum toxin is injected. After two weeks, the
effects of treatment will be checked (the payment for which is included in the
price of treatment).
